Following the latest opinions concerning flossing, I thought now would be a good chance to discuss the benefits of flossing and why we badger you about doing it daily.

You may not realise that even the best, and most expensive toothbrushes physically cannot reach between the embrasure spaces; the spaces between teeth. It is estimated that 30-40% of plaque and bacteria found in our mouths are between our teeth!

Therefore it is essential that these areas are cleaned regularly. Brushing alone is not enough for a healthy mouth – you’ll only be doing half the job. A dentist I used to work with put it like this

“not flossing is like taking a shower and not washing everywhere, you feel fresh but you’re not totally clean!”
Just a note that floss isn’t the only form of interdental cleaning – there are tons of different methods for you to try, just see your hygienist or dentist for a low down on the different types; something for everyone.

Healthy gums do not bleed, if you experience any bleeding with interdental cleaning it may mean that you have gum disease, the best thing to do is floss/interdental clean DAILY, and see your hygienist or dentist REGULARLY.
Floss the teeth you want to keep – simple!
