Every dental practice is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure high level of clinical standards are maintained and adhered to in the practice. Once registered with the CQC, an inspection can happen at any time, announced or unannounced. In February 2017, Tooth Doctor had an announced visit from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to conduct a thorough audit and inspection of the practice, staff and patients.

The CQC assesses the leadership and organisational culture of providers, rating them on how “well-led” they are. By well-led, they mean that the leadership, management and governance of the practice which assures the delivery of high-quality person-centred care, supports learning and innovation, and promotes an open and fair culture.

At Tooth Doctor Dental Practice we see the need to consistently raise standards in health and social care and being of the upmost importance. After a very thorough and rigourous inspection, the CQC concluded that Tooth Doctor has excelled in the “well-led” key question as well as being rated as outstanding in all of the other key questions – safe, effective, caring or responsive.

A full copy of the report can be found online HERE but to highlight some important points from their findings:

“Patients were complimentary about the practice and how the staff treated them. Patients commented positively on how caring and helpful staff were, describing them as friendly, compassionate and professional.”

“There was a pro-active approach to identify safety issues and make improvements in procedures. There was openness, honesty and transparency amongst all staff we spoke with.”

“Patients’ consent is obtained and they are provided with a detailed written treatment plan which describes the treatments considered and agreed together with the proposed time frame for completions and the fees involved.”

“We found that this practice was providing well-led care in accordance with the relevant regulations.”

“The staff described an open and transparent culture where they were comfortable raising and discussing concerns with each other.”
