Using Dental Sedation to Help Nervous Patients Get Treatment

Are you afraid of the dentist? Dental fear and phobia are very common. Whilst you may feel that you are the only person you know who is terrified of dental treatment, in fact one in ten people in the UK experience such a high degree of fear of the dentist that they put off seeking routine treatment. That means the chances are some of your friends and family experience dental fear or phobia, too.

At Tooth Doctor, our team is sympathetic to the needs of nervous dental patients. We know how crippling this fear can be. However, in the 21st Century, we don’t believe it needs to be a barrier to treatment or good oral health.

One of the most popular ways for nervous patients to get treatment is to use conscious sedation. This involves the controlled delivery of a range of sedative drugs, which quickly induce feelings of deep relaxation and peace.

Unlike general anaesthetic used for operations in hospital, with conscious sedation you won’t be asleep. This means you can cooperate with any instructions your dentist gives you, to make treatment easier. However, you will be very relaxed, and most importantly will not experience any pain.

Conscious sedation can be used for all manner of dental procedures, so whatever causes your anxiety, it will help you to get any treatment you need so that you are soon back to oral health.

Many people who are afraid of the dentist believe that their dream smile is non-obtainable because of their anxiety. However, at Tooth Doctor a full range of cosmetic dental procedures, designed to make that dream smile a reality, are also available under dental sedation.
